What is Kind Speech?  It is something we can do, an action we can take.  Kind speech will bring us and our world closer together.

There are three criteria for Kind Speech:

  1. Is it TRUE?

If not, then it is not Kind Speech

2. Is it HELPFUL?

Something may be true but not always helpful.

3. Is it based in KINDNESS?

  • Example: Students are sitting in a circle in a classroom and someone yells, “Hey, I can’t see!”

  • True? Yes

  • Helpful? This is questionable… but maybe we can assume it is helpful to the person who can’t see.

  • Is it based in Kindness? Probably not so how could you change your words to make it more kind? “May you please move so I can see?”
